The "Christmas Elf"

It looks as though Santa’s got one very helpful and considerate elf this year! He doesn’t even want cookies and milk in return for the gifts he delivers! Who is he?

Dobby the house elf, of course!

This high-spirited elf is known to many at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as the “Christmas elf”.

“He’s the most thoughtful elf I’ve ever met, and believe me, I’ve met enough elves to know a kind elf when I see one, and Dobby’s as kind as they get!” A bushy-haired student comments. “Poor thing will probably end up banging his head against the wall when he discovers a whole news article’s been dedicated to him though…”

And on that note, TQ could not resist. A TQ staffer went undercover to the Hogwarts kitchen to scout out the infamous Dobby and shortly thereafter, a large dent had to be magicked off the wall.

“Oh my goodness gracious! What have I done to deserve an honor such as this? No! I can’t be the one you’re looking for—I know! Harry Potter! Good Harry Potter is whom you’ll want to talk to! One moment while I fetch the sir—he’ll be a good subject to write an article about. Not this silly house elf—not I!”

Seeing that, it is obvious the creature is modest as well. But what exactly has he done to receive so much recognition?

Harry Potter, 15, tells us what he thinks is the reason behind this article. “Socks,” he explains in one simple word. One word too simple, really. “Dobby likes socks. I once threw an old sock on the floor and it landed next to Dobby and he thought I’d thrown it at him. He went ballistic and looked as though he’d had one too many butterbeers, but the thing is he just likes socks. And I’ve seen some people with his kind of socks, too, so yeah, I guess that’s what he’s been up to.”

When asked how many socks the generous house elf had presented him with, Potter sheepishly admits, “Thirty-eight pairs.”

Once we were able to get Dobby to sit still, we asked him what his methods were of distributing socks. After all, there are many students at Hogwarts. “I made them all myself. The socks I mean, not the students. Miss Granger taught me to knit!” At this, he promptly waved around a sock that he’d finished knitting. It was orange with purple stripes, red polka dots, and yellow circles.

However, some Hogwarts students think otherwise of Dobby the house elf and his deeds. “They’re SOCKS!” Draco Malfoy, 15, insists. “He’s sending everyone socks! What’s so great about that?!”

What is? When we confronted Dobby with the question, he smirked. “The Draco sir is just sad! I gived him white socks. Great and wonderful Harry Potter sir gots the special colored socks. But if the Draco sir is good, next year this elf might give him prettyful socks!”

And there you have it—the complete story and goings on of Dobby, the “Christmas elf”.
