You do know we’re talking about hair… Though places such as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are all about teaching the young-folk of our world all about the complex spells, enchantments, and hexes available to us, trivial details are important, yet rarely sought out information. For example, what does a young wizard do when a grand pimple has appeared at the center of his nose an hour before a date? What does a teenage witch do when her hair decides to go furiously frizzy before the date with ol’ pimple-face? Well, there’s absolutely no hope for our pimply friend, but are you having trouble with your frizzy hair? Can’t manage that curly head of hair? Even if your hair is naturally straight, paranoid about making sure is stays straight? Let’s go Muggle! That’s right—this time, the Muggles are one step ahead of us. Fifth year Gryffindor prefect Hermione Granger was spotted carrying an elektric hair straightener on the Hogwarts campus. TQ staff approached her about the issue and she assures us that she knows “electric appliances and such cannot work within Hogwarts grounds.” So when we asked her why she had the straightener knowing that, she told us, “I can’t plug it in anywhere, but I plan on learning how to enchant it so that it will work as if it were plugged in.” She’s not number one in her class for nothing! “Hopefully I’ll have it figured out by the next major Hogwarts event.” TQ staff checked the Hogwarts calendar and it looks as though the next ‘major event’ is the Felt-On-Pants Boogie. When asked if Miss Granger was considering escorting any lucky young gentlemen to the boogie, she suddenly became flustered and walked away with a “no comment”. But the girls on campus won’t be the only ones worrying over the hair straightening techniques—the guys care about their hair, too! After much difficulty, TQ staff caught up with fifth year Slytherin prefect Draco Malfoy. His ungelled look has turned more than a few heads this season. First we asked him why he decided to come ungelled. Unfortunately, he refuses to answer that question and claims it’s his right to do what he pleases with his hair and it should be nothing of our concern; a couple TQ staffers believe otherwise, however. So we asked more questions concerning his hair, and after some persistence, the Slytherin loosened up. “Yes, I have naturally straight, platinum hair, as does the rest of the Malfoy bloodline,” he tells us. When we told him what we heard about Hermione Granger, he said, “Enchanting an elektric appliance—! Er… I mean, that’s Granger for you! The Mudbl**d should just go back to her own little world as should the rest of those filthy excuses for witches and wizards. Everyone knows you can’t use elektrikul appliances on Hogwarts grounds!” And at this point, a rather huffy Draco Malfoy scoffed and marched off. After some undercover research, TQ staff has discovered that Muggle hair straighteners are more commonly called flat irons. The device is something like a large clip (half the length of one’s arm) and on the inside of one end of the clip are two plates. Most of the time the plates are made of metal, but some are made of ceramics such as porcelain, which Muggles claim are less damaging to the hair. However, if anyone does gain access to one of these elektrikul devices, do not overuse it, as it has the potential to fry hair. More on the advancing of the enchantment on these Muggle appliances soon! |
